NVIDIA announced the CMP or CryptoMining Processors line of processors to address the lack of chips for graphics cards, and thus the lack of inventory for sale. At the same time, the company also tried to limit the hash rate of its latest GeForce RTX 30 series graphics cards, although we all know that the attempt has been left to that. Still, the NVIDIA CMP line gives miners a direct way to order graphics in bulk, primarily used in cryptocurrency mining operations.

300 NVIDIA CMP 30HX graphics cards seized by customs

A report has now emerged in China that the Hong Kong customs authorities have confiscated a total of 300 CMP-30HX graphics cards and labeled them as Smuggling units It was reportedly targeted at Chinese mining operations.

It should be noted that China still has bans on cryptocurrency mining operations in several of its provinces, so this could explain why it is considered contraband even if it is a legitimate request to NVIDIA. Chinese miners have also been responsible for major power outages in Iran and caused major power surges in Mongolia as they tried to circumvent their own country’s restrictions on mining.

Previously we said it was unlucky because 300 graphics dedicated to mining and bought by cryptocurrency miners are potentially 300 graphics cards for games they don’t use that would be available to the public.

NVIDIA mining graphics with Turing GPUs

The NVIDIA CMP 30HX, 40HX, and 50 HX mining graphics are based on the Turing architecture with 12nm silicon. The 50HX is based on the TU102 GPU and has a circuit board that is very similar to the PG150 of the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti; It has 10 GB of dedicated graphics memory. The 40HX is based on the TU106-100 GPU and the PG161 motherboard with 8 GB of dedicated memory. After all, the 30HX is based on the TU116-100 GPU and the PG161 board with 6 GB of dedicated graphics memory. The 30HX and 40HX have already been confirmed by the controllers, and the 50HX and 90HX are expected to arrive in the second quarter of this year. Nvidia CMP mining

The graphics cards seized by customs appear to be NVIDIA CMP 30HX models that have a standard dual-slot, dual-fan design. As you may have seen in the images above, they have no video outputs and so it is obvious that they are part of the NVIDIA CMP family, graphics priced at $ 723 per unit so the seizure would be marked contraband valued at nearly $ 217,000.
