The affected service is Daniels hosting (DH), This is the most widely used free hosting service on the dark web. According to the leak, the data was accessed last March after the hacker managed to access the Internet March 10, 2020. After logging in, it copied all information from the database and formatted all servers.

7,600 websites affected, a third of the total dark web

Two weeks after the hack, DH shut down and asked its users to switch their websites to new hosting services. That meant around a third of the websites on the dark web, some 7,600 portals, were almost suddenly no longer available.

Today a hacker calling himself KingNull uploaded a copy of the Dark Web database, including 3,671 emails, 7,205 passwords and 8,580 private keys for .onion domains most accessible through Dark web search engines. This allows the authorities to assign any domain to this e-mail and identify the carrier of the e-mail, which can lead to arrest in the event of illegal activities.

Fortunately at least that IP addresses It was not part of the leaked data, although the authorities can only request the data on this account and obtain the IP address from which it was accessed using the email from companies such as Google, Microsoft or Yahoo!

Once the website owners have reused the email address and password, anyone with the database can take control of the new domains; although they still have to crack the password hashes to do this.

DH suffered a similar hack back in 2018

The March 2020 hack is the second DH suffered in its history, as an intruder also managed to access the database and delete all data on the web in November 2018. A total of 6,500 domains were deleted, but no user data was published. There have also been hacks for other domain managers, such as Freedom Hosting II, which was hacked in 2017 after it was discovered they host portals related to child pornography.

For now, the owner of Daniel’s Hosting says he’ll be restarting the service in the next few months after making some security improvements.
